Compress PDF free, without uploading

Drop or choose PDFs, pick a strength and mode, then compress PDF files and download the smaller results.

Free, with no account. Nothing is uploaded: your files and results stay in this browser.

One or more PDFs. Around 200 MB is usually fine on a laptop; phones have less memory. Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first.

Compression mode

Choose PDF files to begin.

Keep text leaves unsupported images untouched. Smallest trades page detail for size. Review the result before sharing; compression invalidates digital signatures.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my PDF be?

Savings depend on the images in your PDF and the strength preset. Light keeps more detail, Balanced suits everyday sharing, and Strong trades detail for smaller files. Compare the before and after sizes; if a result is not smaller, download the original.

Does text stay selectable and searchable?

Keep text preserves the text layer, fonts and other page content while shrinking eligible images. Smallest turns every page into a JPEG: text stops being selectable and searchable, and links and forms are lost.

Is my PDF private or uploaded?

Nothing is uploaded: your files and results stay in this browser. The PDF libraries load from this site only after you choose a file. No account is needed, and processing happens on your device.

Why did my file not shrink?

Already-compressed images may have little room to shrink. Vector-only PDFs and PDFs with just text are often already compact. Some image formats and masks are left untouched in Keep text. If compression does not save space, the tool offers the original bytes.

Can I compress scanned PDFs?

Yes. Scanned PDFs often contain large images and can shrink considerably. Keep text preserves any existing OCR text layer. Smallest can shrink scans further, but removes OCR text along with links and forms; check that small print remains readable.

What is the file size limit?

There is no fixed upload limit because nothing is uploaded. Around 200 MB is usually fine on a laptop; phones have less memory. Very large images or pages can exceed browser memory. Process fewer files at a time or choose a stronger preset.
