How big can I make a picture?
Choose 2x or 4x. The native model runs at 4x; 2x then uses a high-quality bicubic reduction. The intermediate 4x picture is limited to 4096 pixels on its long edge and 16 megapixels, so inputs are at most 1024 pixels on the long edge. For larger originals, select Shrink large pictures first. Add up to 20 pictures; they run one at a time.
Why does 4x take longer, and will it work on phones?
4x creates sixteen times as many pixels as the input. Both scales use the same 4x AI model, so 2x also needs inference time. Small pictures work best on phones; large pictures can take minutes or run out of memory. Use a computer for larger jobs, or Cancel and try a smaller picture.
Which images work best?
Clear small photos, illustrations and compressed pictures work best. It sharpens and adds detail; it cannot recover what was never in the photo, and faces may look smoothed. Heavy blur, tiny text and very noisy pictures may still look imperfect. HEIC works only if your browser can decode it; otherwise save as JPG or PNG first. Sharp adds the most AI detail; choose Soft if edges look over-sharpened or faces look painted.
Can I keep transparent PNGs?
Yes. PNG and WebP preserve transparency; the alpha channel is enlarged with plain bicubic resampling. JPG uses a white background and quality 92. Move the before / after slider to compare both images at the same display size, then choose a download format. Download all makes a ZIP when two or more pictures are ready.
Are pictures uploaded, and is it free?
Your pictures never leave this browser. No upload, account or payment is needed. It is free: the model runs on your device. About 16.2 MB of model and runtime files download from this site only after you press Upscale. The picture model is cached after the first time when browser storage is available.
