Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flipping horizontally and vertically?

A horizontal flip mirrors the picture left to right, like a reflection in a mirror. A vertical flip turns it upside down, top to bottom. Both together is the same as rotating the picture half a turn.

Do my images leave my device?

No. Each file never leaves the device. This tool reads and processes files entirely in your browser, with nothing uploaded or stored by API Tool Calls. It is free, with no sign up.

Will the flipped image keep its format and size?

Yes. JPG, PNG and WebP keep their format and their pixel size when your browser can save that format; other formats are saved as PNG. JPG is saved again at high quality, so very small changes in the pixels are possible. Animated images become a single still frame.

Can I flip many images at once?

Yes. Choose several files and they are flipped one after another with the same setting. Each result gets its own Save image link, and a file that fails does not stop the others.

Does flipping change a photo's rotation information?

The flipped file is drawn from the picture as your browser shows it, so it follows the photo's rotation tag. The saved file carries no camera metadata such as location or time.
