Enter each completed category average and its weight from your syllabus. Weights are relative and normalized by their entered total; they need not sum to 100. The final-exam option treats this average as the non-final portion of the course.
Your result
Average = Σ(score × weight) / Σ(weight). Final needed = [target − current average × (1 − final share)] / final share, with final share = final weight / 100.
Primary source: NIST weighted mean formula; final target is its algebraic rearrangement.
Worked example
Scores 80 with weight 40 and 90 with weight 60 give (80 × 40 + 90 × 60) / 100 = 86%. With a 20% final, a 90% target needs (90 − 86 × 0.8) / 0.2 = 106%.

Frequently asked questions
Must weights total 100?
No. The weighted average divides by the total entered weight and reports that total. Use the weights specified by your course.
What does a final target above 100% mean?
The target is unattainable on a final scored from 0 to 100 without extra credit. A needed score of zero or less means zero already meets the target.
Are letter grades assigned?
No. Scores and targets are percentages from 0 to 100; letter cutoffs and rounding policies depend on your school.
