Discounted price = original price × Π(1 − discount% / 100), applied in order. Saved = original price − discounted price. Tax = discounted price × tax% / 100; total = discounted price + tax.

Introduction to Business Math, section 4.1 defines net price from single and multiple discounts. The entered tax percentage is multiplied by the discounted price; no tax rules are inferred.

Worked example: $100 with 20% off, then another 10% off, becomes $72, saving $28 (28% overall). Entering 5% sales tax adds $3.60 for a $75.60 total.

Discounts apply to the remaining price in the entered order, rather than adding the percentages. A 100% discount makes the remaining price zero. USD prices accept up to two decimal places. Intermediate discounts keep full precision; the final discounted price rounds to cents, then the entered tax applies and rounds to cents. Step amounts are display-rounded and may not sum exactly. Tax is arithmetic on your entered rate, with no location lookup or taxability decision.

Frequently asked questions

Is this calculator free and private?

Yes. Arithmetic runs in your browser without uploading your entries or saving them to browser storage.

Do stacked discounts add together?

No. Each percentage applies to the remaining price. A 20% discount followed by 10% gives 28% off overall, because 0.80 × 0.90 = 0.72.

How is optional sales tax calculated?

The entered percentage applies after discounts to the discounted price rounded to cents. Tax rounds to cents and is added to that price. You supply the rate; this calculator does not determine tax rules.
