Common mean examples
| Values | Sum | Count | Mean |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2, 4, 4, 6 | 16 | 4 | 4 |
| 1, 3, 5 | 9 | 3 | 3 |
| 10, 20, 30 | 60 | 3 | 20 |
Worked example
For values 5, 7, 12, add them (24), then divide by count (3): mean = 24 ÷ 3 = 8. For 2, 4, 4, 6, mean = 16 ÷ 4 = 4.
How to use this tool
Enter values in one common unit and choose Calculate. The arithmetic mean appears first; other descriptive statistics follow.
Frequently asked questions
How is the arithmetic mean calculated?
Add the values and divide by the number of values: mean = Σx/n.
Can values have different units?
No. Enter values that share a common unit; the calculator does not convert or infer units.
What is an example?
For 2, 4, 4, 6, the sum is 16 and count is 4, so the mean is 16 ÷ 4 = 4.
