Enter signed decimal strings up to 60 characters each, without exponents or commas. Choose 0–100 fractional digits. BigInt keeps the working exact. Parentheses enclose a detected repeating block; an ellipsis marks a truncated answer, never a rounded one. The integer quotient truncates toward zero; its remainder has the dividend’s sign. Working steps use absolute values and an integer divisor after aligning the decimals. Remainder units match the dividend.
Your result
Align decimal places by multiplying both inputs by the same power of 10. For each digit: partial = previous remainder × 10 + brought-down digit; quotient digit = floor(partial/divisor); next remainder = partial − digit × divisor. dividend = divisor × integer quotient + remainder. Repeated remainders identify repeating decimals.

Worked example
7 ÷ 2: subtract 6 from 7, leaving 1; bring down a decimal zero to make 10, then 10 ÷ 2 = 5. The quotient is 3.5; the integer quotient is 3 with remainder 1. Also, 1 ÷ 3 = 0.(3).
How to use this tool

Frequently asked questions
Is a truncated answer rounded?
No. It stops at the selected fractional-digit bound and is marked truncated with an ellipsis.
How do decimal divisors work?
Both inputs are scaled by the same power of ten to make integers. The steps use those absolute integers; the final remainder is rescaled into dividend units.
