Cylinder Volume Calculator

Free, with no sign up. Calculations run on your device; your entries stay in this browser.

Start with a cylinder. Measure the radius and perpendicular height in the same unit; radius is half the diameter. You can also select another solid.

Your result

Enter values and select Calculate.

Cylinder: V = π × radius² × height; radius = diameter / 2. 1 m³ = 1,000 L.

Worked example

A cylinder 4 ft in diameter has radius 2 ft. With height 5 ft, it holds π × 2² × 5 = 20π ≈ 62.83185307 ft³, or approximately 1.779199915 m³.

How to use this tool

Enter cylinder radius (half its diameter) and perpendicular height. Choose the length unit and Calculate to see cubic volume.

Frequently asked questions

What if I measured diameter?

Divide the diameter by two before entering radius. A 4 ft diameter has a 2 ft radius.

Does this calculate cylinder surface area?

No. This page computes the volume enclosed by a solid cylinder, not surface area.

What is the cylinder volume formula?

Volume equals pi times radius squared times perpendicular height. Use the same length unit for both dimensions.
