Frequently asked questions
Which languages can I translate?
Choose English to Spanish, Spanish to English, English to German or German to English. Swap reverses the pair. Each direction uses its own small model, downloaded only after you press Translate.
Can I translate SRT and VTT subtitles?
Yes. Choose or drop an SRT or VTT file. Cue identifiers and timing lines are kept, including empty cues. Edit each translated cue and download SRT or VTT; conversion between formats adjusts timestamp notation and gives named VTT cues numeric SRT numbers.
Are my text and subtitles uploaded?
Runs on your device. Nothing is uploaded. The chosen model downloads from this site and is cached when browser storage is available. No account or payment is needed.
How much text can I translate, and how long does it take?
Use up to 20,000 text characters, including subtitle text. Text runs in small batches with progress. The first translation downloads about 139 to 150 MB for the chosen model and about 12 MB for the browser runtime. Speed and available memory depend on your device; try shorter text on phones. Cancel stops the worker.
How accurate is machine translation?
Machine translation: check anything important. These models work best on short everyday sentences. Review names, tone and specialist language. Numbers, URLs, email addresses and subtitle markup are preserved; translating around these may make the wording less natural.
